11 Reasons Why You Should Migrate to Next-Generation DX APM
Written by: Jennifer Liharik
The current version of DX APM continues a long history of innovation for APM technology. More than two decades ago, the solution was the pioneer in byte code instrumentation. DX APM is now a next-generation solution for today’s complex and hybrid enterprise environments.
Figure 1: Broadcom’s DX APM has evolved from Wily Technology’s invention of byte code instrumentation-based APM, which was introduced in 1998. Today, the solution features a next-generation, microservices-based, and scalable architecture. The solution also offers correlation across application, infrastructure, and network layers; and automated single-point agent deployment with the Universal Monitoring Agent.
For those Broadcom customers who have not migrated to the DX APM solution, there are 11 reasons why you should start planning your move now:
- Move from a monolithic platform to an open, scalable, microservices-based architecture that can support you across the enterprise, no matter how much your requirements may grow.
- Transition from single-layer topology that is limited to application data, and gain insight from a multi-layer topology that provides correlation across application, infrastructure, and network layers.
- Add insight beyond metrics and alerts-based infrastructure. Leverage more than 40 out-of-the-box extensions that provide broad coverage, including database tracing.
- Leverage our Universal Monitoring Agent (UMA), which is no longer limited to 10.7 metrics and alerts. Gain full UMA capabilities for Kubernetes/OpenShift, Node.js, and Kafka. Harness support for scalable deployment, multi-tenant environments, and automatic application discovery.
- Easily add DX App Experience Analytics capabilities, including funnel analysis, instead of having to do a separate product installation.
- Expand insight from basic traffic analysis to the Business Payload Analyzer, which provides web transaction analysis via machine learning and statistical analysis.
- Broaden OpenTracing and OpenTelemetry with APM trace correlation and topology support, instead of using 10.7, which is limited to standalone metrics, traces, and alerts.
- Move from unstructured dashboards with limited security, and get advanced dashboarding capabilities with more than 50 pre-configured dashboards and a modern, flexible, Grafana-based approach to dashboard customization that offers more robust security.
- Move from email alerts and custom shell scripts to flexible HTML notifications and pre-packaged ticketing system integrations.
- Benefit from advanced algorithms that use a multi-layer topology for more robust assisted triage and root cause analysis.
- And last, but not least, with DX APM you can add DX Operational Intelligence. This extends DX APM’s transaction tracing capabilities to the business services level. In addition, it provides insight for IT operations and business line owners. DX Operational Intelligence also offers artificial intelligence- and machine learning-based automated remediation, capacity planning, and predictive insights.
